Nature’s treasures

Now that you have arrived at the summit of the Pic de Vissou you can take in the breathtaking views of Cabrières and its surrounding area in the foreground, with Sète and the Mediterranean sea  just visible in the distance.

The exceptional geomorphological characteristics of this area are directly related to its human occupation as well as the specific forms of local plant and wildlife found here.

More than anywhere else, in this area there is an understanding and responsiveness between nature and culture, each shaping the other.  For many thousands of years human activity in this area (the clearing of land, cultivation of individual plots, use of resources) have contributed to maintaining conditions conducive to the development of an extraordinarily rich and varied flora and fauna.  The ultimate sign of a symbiotic relationship.

And now, it's time to head back down !!  The rest of the itinerary provides you with  an opportunity to learn more about the area – its history, its inhabitants as well as the area's ecosystems.
